SGG Adds Developer Christina Stiles

Fri, 05/17/2013 - 22:08

Super Genius Games has reached an agreement with popular RPG writer & editor Christina Stiles for her to develop game books for SGG to publish under the “Christina Stiles Presents” (CSP) product line. The CSP line should premiere in the summer of 2013, and offer new game pdfs (and possibly print books) once or twice each month.

“Christina and I have worked together before,” says SGG Lead Developer Owen K.C. Stephens. “We’ve both been freelance writers for the same book published by another company, and we’ve bounced ideas off each other when working on our own products. She has a good grasp of game mechanics and a sensibility that matches our style. When the possibility of her becoming a developer for us came up, it seemed like a good fit.”

“I’m very excited to be working with Stan!, Hyrum Savage, and Owen K.C. Stephens,” Christina said. “I LOVE SGG’s books, and I look forward to adding more material to their impressive catalog. With my CSP product line, I’m particularly looking forward to working with some new writers, helping them build their freelancing careers and mentoring them in the process. Paying it forward is of great importance to me.”

Christina will work with SGG Lead Developer Owen K.C. Stephens to build a stable of authors from both well-established and new freelance writers. Individuals interested in writing for the “Christina Stiles Presents” line can contact her at [email protected].

Super Genius Games was founded in fall 2007 by game industry veterans Stan! and Hyrum Savage. SGG is dedicated to publishing quality PDF and print products for a wide range of games and game systems, including the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Savage Worlds, and Call of Cthulhu. For more information contact [email protected].

Christina Stiles is a freelance role-playing game writer, developer, and editor from South Carolina. Her most recent works include Champions of Purity for Paizo Publishing, Journeys to the West and Beyond the Ghostlight Reef for Kobold Press, and the Rogue Mage RPG Player’s Handbook for Bella Rosa Books/Misfit Studios. Christina has done work for Paizo Publishing, Kobold Press, Green Ronin Publishing, Troll Lord Games, White Wolf Studios, and many others. She is also a developer for Misfit Studios.

PRESS RELEASE: Warlords of the Apocalypse

Thu, 12/20/2012 - 06:47

SUPER GENIUS GAMES ACQUIRES ‘WARLORDS OF THE APOCALYPSE’ FROM ADAMANT ENTERTAINMENT

December18, 2012

Super Genius Games, critically-acclaimed publisher of supplemental material for the Pathfinder, Savage Worlds, and Call of Cthulhu role-playing game systems, has acquired the rights to the Pathfinder-compatible WARLORDS OF THE APOCALYPSE game setting from original developer Adamant Entertainment.

WARLORDS OF THE APOCALYPSE, first announced in 2010,  brings the gonzo, over-the-top world of classic post-apocalypse science-fantasy to the Pathfinder rules system, featuring mutants, psychic powers, radioactive beasts and warriors of the wasteland.

“The game ran into some major snags during development,” says Gareth-Michael Skarka, director of Adamant Entertainment. “We soldiered on, trying to pull it together, but it became apparent that the property would be far better in the hands of Pathfinder experts like the crew at Super Genius.  We’re very glad they expressed an interest and that we were able to come to an agreement that honors not only WOTA, but the existing pre-order customers, who were our primary concern.”

Customers who had pre-ordered WARLORDS OF THE APOCALYPSE will see those orders fulfilled by Super Genius Games. “We are well aware folks have already been waiting a very long time, and shown amazing patience,” says Owen K.C. Stephens, the Line Developer for WOTA at Super Genius. “We’ll be outlining our full plans soon, and setting up a forum for open discussions. We know we’ll eventually put the book in the hands of the pre–order customers, and we’re working out how the general public can get involved. Since we want the biggest, best release possible for Warlords of the Apocalypse, we’re even considering a Kickstarter campaign.”

Stephens and Skarka both expressed enthusiasm for the project and it’s future in the hands of Super Genius Games. “It’s such a fun genre, and Super Genius has strongly established themselves as seriously excellent developers,” said Skarka. “I look forward to seeing WARLORDS OF THE APOCALYPSE in its final form.   I’m sure it will be brilliant!”

Help Us Kick(start) the Shoggoth!

Mon, 11/12/2012 - 20:45

A few years ago, we released a limited edition print run of The Littlest Shoggoth, a holiday tale of the Cthulhu Mythos written and illustrated by our own Stan! But you can’t keep a good formless abomination down, and so Squammy (the titular tiny shoggoth) is back . . . or he hopes to be.

We’ve just kicked off a new Kickstarter campaign with a goal of raising the funds necessary to bring The Littlest Shoggoth back into print, this time in an edition substantial enough so that everyone who wants a copy can get one. The details can all be found on the project’s Kickstarter page.

If this interests you at all, there’s one thing above all others we ask: Tell people about it!

Yes, ideally we’d like you to spend some of your hard-earned cash on the project, but we’re realistic . . . times are tough, it’s the holiday season, not everyone can. But if this sounds like a worthy project, you can make a real impact by helping us get the word out as far and wide as possible!

The Littlest Shoggoth Kickstarter will run through the middle of December, and then we’ll (hopefully) get right to work printing the copies and shipping them out to our patrons.

Join us as we aim to put a little bit of the Mythos into the holidays!

Tue, 11/15/2011 - 16:58
Drawn from the Might of the Heavens Themselves

Codex Draconis: White Terrors of the North

Wed, 11/02/2011 - 02:31
The most fearsome creature in fantasy is now a little easier on the GM

Masters of glacial wastelands and rime-covered peaks, white dragons are capricious, cunning, and undeniably treacherous. From the smallest kobold tribe to the mighty frost giant Jarls, white dragons command obedience and tribute from all in their demesne. No other dragon better uses its environment to its advantage.

Like all dragons, though, the white dragon is as fearsome to the GM as it is to the heroes, requiring substantial preparation to bring into the game, especially given its broad range of age categories, CRs, and options—unless, of course, the GM hasCodex Draconis: White Terrors of the North.

The Codex Draconis series of products gives you stat blocks, options, and alternatives to add dragons across all age categories and CRs to your game with a minimum of fuss and effort.

Gosh, We Love Those Reviews!

Fri, 10/28/2011 - 20:08

The headline says it all! Here’s a taste of what reviewers have been saying about Super Genius products in just the past few weeks!

Ultimate Options: New Arcane Discoveries

“I liked the majority of the new discoveries and I like Academician a lot as a archetype.”

“Owen K.C. Stephens does it again—this pdf is a prime example of crunch-mastery, adding a vast array of excellent options for wizards that make the class more distinctive… This pdf is a prime example of excellent mastery of the rules married to cool ideas”

Ultimate Options: Grit and Gunslingers

“[These feats] are reasonable, fun, logical, and things I would love to incorporate into my character as the campaign develops. Kudos to Grit and Gunslingers!”

The Genius Guide to Races of Fire and Fury

“If you are interested in incorporating some exotic races tied to fire in your campaign, Races of Fire and Fury will provide some inspiration options and ideas.”

Mythic Menagerie: Demonic Harlots

“Author Sam Hing has done it—this is the very best installment of Mythic Menageries to date—plenty of content and signature abilities, cool supplemental material, neat prose, no gripes.”

#1 With a Bullet Point: 13 Witches Hexes

“That’s just a sampling, but it’s a good representative of what’s here: nothing that completely alters the class or its hex power, but instead adds a dash of versatility.”

“I would like to see more of… well pretty much all the hexes.”

Genius Guide to Crystal Magic

“Finally, here we have some prime examples that cool spells need not be combat-centric: From the option to establish and communicate via a crystalline council, to turning objects into crystal (glass-steel, anyone?) to two very cool divinations to probe the destination of a target creature, the spells are intriguing.”

Genius Guide to Exalted Domains of War and Ruin

“Author Marc Radle has done a terrific job that enhances our enjoyment of the cleric class. Simple, concise, and yet iconic abilities are granted, making the users of exalted domains feel much more in touch with their focus.”

Genius Guide to Exalted Domains of Light and Lore

“A splendid job with this part of the exalted domain trilogy . . . the abilities all felt balanced and appropriate for the domains, and make the selection of an exalted domain hard for all the right reasons—after all, you can only take one of them and there are a lot cool ones herein!”

Genius Guide to Divine Archetypes

“I did not expect to like the archetype-book, to be honest, and only bought it out of a completionist’s neurosis and oh boy, am I glad that I did!”

Adventurer’s Handbook

“Over all I would recommend this book for great content and fun playable classes.”

Sorcerer’s Options: Beyond Bloodlines

“This is a refreshingly different look at the sorcerer class, and ought to provide a few ideas for anyone looking to run a sorcerer who is that little bit different.”

Mythic Menagerie: Kith of the Harpy Queen

“This installment of the Mythic Menagerie line is literally all killer, no filler—each creature had something going for it and the additional items and spells are top quality.”

The Genius Guide to the Mosaic Mage

Thu, 10/27/2011 - 20:11
A colorful class that puts the magic back into magic

Traditional wizards find magic in books, sorcerers in blood, and bards in music. The most powerful magical creatures of the Material Plane—dragons—find magic in color. Like dragons, the mosaic mage eschews traditional schools of magic, drawing instead on associations of color. This gives them unique access to combinations of abilities—such as the evocation of fire alongside healing abilities—that are often the envy of other spellcasting classes.

The mosaic mage gives you a spellcaster whose relationship with, and access to, magic gives it a unique flavor and very different style of play—and The Genius Guide to the Mosaic Mage gives you everything you need to integrate this colorful class into your campaign. Put a bit of magic back into your magic!

SGG, Spelltweets, and the Free Economy

Thu, 10/27/2011 - 19:09

Robot Viking recently called out Super Genius’s spelltweets in an interesting look at one aspect of social media marketing: free stuff. In the short article, Dale McCoy talks about companies who give away useful content as a way of driving for-sale products, and mentions spelltweets as one example of a company getting it right. Spelltweets are quick, one-sentence variant spells that our own Owen K.C. Stephens sends out every so often–usually one or two a day.

We happen to agree with Robot Viking’s analysis. If you aren’t keeping up with our spelltweets, make sure you follow @Owen_Stephens on Twitter, or search for the #spelltweets hashtag!

The Genius Guide to Races of Fire and Fury

Sat, 10/22/2011 - 02:46
Seen your share of elves and dwarves and orcs?

The breath of dragons. A tool of the gods. The instrument of demonic fury and everlasting torture of the sinful. Fire is the most awe-inspiring element, and it has been a source of fear and fascination since the dawn of its discovery. The Genius Guide to Races of Fire and Fury presents a trio of new fantasy races suitable for use as player characters or NPCs. These races share a common trait of having an association with heat or flame.

Each of the new races comes from a culture with its own unique perspective on life and their place in the world—a set of cultural norms GMs and players can use to understand how the group would fit into a campaign and build characters that fit within (or purposely stretch themselves beyond) those expectations.

Like any good rules expansion, The Genius Guide to Races of Fire and Fury introduces new possibilities to your Pathfinder campaign and gives everyone at the table a chance to expand the horizons of the game and create adventures that are truly fantastic.
